Puheenjohtaja, kansanedustaja Sari Essayah toivotti Suomen Kristillisdemokraattien puolesta Euroopan kansanpuolueen EPP:n puoluekokouksen osallistujat tervetulleiksi Helsinkiin.
– KD on osallistunut vuosien saatossa monia kertoja EPP:n puoluekokouksiin, mutta tänä vuonna olemme onnellisia voidessamme edustaa EPP:n täysjäsenenä puolueemme 60-vuotisjuhlavuotena.

Essayah korosti kokouspäivien merkitystä EPP-puolueperheelle. Kongressi asettaa poliittiset tavoitteet tuleviin EU-vaaleihin ja samalla luo tulevaisuuden suuntaa koko Euroopalle.
– Euroopan vahvuus on juutalais-kristillinen arvopohja, jolle se on rakennettu. Meidän tulee olla ihmiselämän ainutlaatuisuuden suojelijoita ja puolustajia. Meidän tulee puolustaa perhearvoja. Meidän tulee vahvistaa sosiaalista markkinataloutta. Näiden arvojen tulee säilyä ja puolueperheemme luottaa niihin.

Essayah muistutti, että Eurooppa on rakennettu palvellakseen kansalaisiaan.
– Meidän päätehtävämme pitää olla varmistaa, että jokaisella on ääni.

Dear Mr. President, Mr. Secretary General, delegates and guests, dear friends,

On behalf of the Finnish Christian Democrats, I wish you a warm welcome to Helsinki. It is truly a great pleasure to have the whole EPP family gathered here. We have participated in numerous congresses during the years, but this year we are extremely happy to participate as a full member of EPP as our party turns 60 years.

As you may have heard, Finland was recently voted the happiest country in the world. Indeed, Finland offers plenty of opportunities to build a good life. We have an education system, which is time after time ranked best in the world. And we are proud of our Nordic welfare system, which equally backs up every one, leaving  no-one behind.

Dear friends,
These two days will play an essential role for our EPP family. The Congress will set our party’s political guidelines for the upcoming European elections. I am looking forward to hear fruitful discussions and exchange of ideas on our direction. – And above all, the future direction of Europe.

Europe’s strength is the Judeo-Christian value base to which our continent was built on. We need to be the ones who protect and defend the dignity of human life. We need to be the ones who defend family values. We need to be the ones who strengthen social market economy. These values continue to remain. These are the values our family needs to rely on.

Our job is to continue to earn our citizens trust and make sure that Europe delivers. It means ensuring a smart, sustainable and inclusive economic growth. It means ensuring a secure Europe.

Above all, Europe was built to serve its citizens. Our main priority should be to ensure that everyone has a voice.
